JAPANESE COMPOSER AND PIANIST
EMI NISHIDA EXPRESSES HER LOVE
FOR FILMS
This album contains three tracks that are inspired by her favorite films and series (1. Yanse / 3. In Between / 5. Radiance ) and the other two tracks
(2. Morgun Dögg / 4. Sorbet) about her travels to Iceland where her favorite film composers are from.
Emi developed her unique sounds with a variety of genres of music - classical music, world, jazz, pops, electronic, film soundtrack etc.
Besides her own performance and recording, the world-renowned Budapest Art Orchestra, a Grammy nominee violinist Bengisu Gokce, and other amazing musicians helped with this project.
Tracks
01.
The first track Yanse (=Color) is influenced by the Wuxia martial arts film “Hero”. Live recordings of solo violin, solo dizi, and string orchestra bring a dense, textured sound intended to transport listeners to the era of the Qin dynasty. Through it’s movements the piece is meant to evoke the thrill of a suspenseful encounter, the exhilaration of martial arts, as well as the broad romantic beauty that saturates so many films of this genre.
02.
Morgun
Dögg
This summer, Emi had a chance to visit her dream country, Iceland where many film composers who influenced her writing are from. Morgan Dögg means "morning dew" in Icelandic. The lyrics are based on her sweet and personal experience during the visit. This is her first time recording the vocal.
Floating clouds
They’re sailing across the tips of towers
Toward the sky
I wish for time to go by slowly, slowly
Crossing in my mind
The moment and sentiment
Open the window
And feel a breeze
Impulsive silence
That keeps tickling my ears
I wish to believe in uncertainty
Because it feels a little warmer than yesterday
03.
"In Between" is influenced by TV series “Alice in Borderland”. Emi performed solo piano for this piece.
04.
Another track inspired by the Iceland trip. The main motif is based on her humming and nature sound while visiting Jökulsárlón Glacier. YUKI KANESAKA helped recoridng the bowed vibraphone at his studio.
05.
Influenced by film “Oppenheimer”, Emi finished writing this piece with 2 parts. The beginning represents Oppenheimer's passion to save his country and the later part is about his regret.
